Hosting International Visitors and Delegations

The University of Cincinnati brings many international visitors to campus each year to teach, conduct research, give lectures or performances and form collaborations.

UC International helps assure compliance with US laws and university policy at every step of this process.

Recording Visits

University of Cincinnati departments sponsor the visits of many international visitors to provide “limited services" (including guest lecture or performances) on a temporary basis or to develop research or programmatic collaborations.

All international visitors or delegations hosted by UC departments or colleges must be recorded  with UC International, per university policy.

This recording is done to ensure that

  • The visitors are pre-screened for Export Controls purposes.
  • The visitors are cleared to provide the service or have access to UC facilities and research.
  • The visitors may receive payments, if eligible in their current immigration status.

UC faculty and staff can find instructions on how to record visitors and delegations on UC International's Bearcats Landing site (log-in required).

Payments to International Visitors

The types of payments or honoraria that can be made to an international visitor depend upon the visitor's immigration status.

Short-term international visitors to UC typically come on a tourist status, including B-1, B-2 and visa waiver status. Find more information on visa types in our list of common visa statuses.

Faculty and staff can find instructions on honoraria, reimbursement of documented expenses and other payments to international visitors on UC International's Bearcats Landing Site (log-in required).

Payments for Virtual Engagements

Increasingly, UC engages virtually with experts around the globe to lecture, give performances or provide other services on a short-term basis.

Regulations governing payments to a Non-US Citizen/Non-Permanent Resident (Green Card) depend on whether the paid virtual activity is carried out by the guest while outside or inside the US.

Faculty and staff can find instructions on honoraria, reimbursement of documented expenses and other payments for virtual international services on UC International's Bearcats Landing site (log-in required).
