2021-2022 Annual Report

There is a fourth "I" implicit in UC's core values of inclusion, innovation and impact, and that is internationalism.

In spite of ongoing uncertainty over global health and safety, in spite of sometimes chaotic changes to government guidelines or the availability of visa appointments, and in spite of the many complications that entangled world travel, UC International successfully landed a record-breaking fall class of international students, slowly opened global travel and found ways to reconnect with partners abroad.

Global Partnerships

The University of Cincinnati forms key institutional partnerships in geostrategic regions of the world. These university-wide partnerships go beyond the hundreds of individual institutional collaboration and activity agreements UC has worldwide.

Building a small number of comprehensive and sustainable partnerships allows UC to channel efforts and resources into collaborations that embody our university’s vision of global impact, innovation and inclusion. Such partnerships are more vital than ever.

With the support of such sustainable partnerships, institutions of higher education can weather uncertain times. We can mitigate risk, mutually invest in innovation and generate new recruitment and revenue streams. We can bridge short-term challenges and launch creative new ventures.

Study Abroad

In fall 2021, UC’s student travel policy was lifted, but with firm restrictions.

Individual student travel was possible by petition. Despite the stringent guidelines, participation returned heartily for exchange and external provider programs. Co-op and internship participation abroad only reached about half of its pre-pandemic level.

Faculty-led programs could travel to locations with a U.S. Department of State warning under level 4, beginning with winter break programs. Only 3 programs, all of which had run prior to the pandemic, were able to successfully meet the criteria to take student groups abroad.
